About The Canary Project

Restoring What Technology Has Quietly Taken.

The Canary Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization helping individuals, families, and communities build healthier relationships with technology by reclaiming attention, strengthening human connection, and living with greater intention.

WHY THE CANARY?

For generations, canaries were carried into coal mines because they could detect dangers people couldn't see. Their warning gave others a chance to recognize what was happening around them—and act before it was too late.

The Canary Project takes its name from that same idea. Today, the warning isn't harmful gas. It's the gradual erosion of attention, presence, relationships, and community in a world increasingly shaped by technology.

We believe technology should serve human life—not quietly reshape it. The Canary Project exists to make those changes visible and give people practical ways to respond.

TURNING AWARENESS INTO ACTION

Awareness alone isn't enough.

The Canary Project creates practical experiences, tools, resources, and conversations that help people examine their relationship with technology and make intentional changes in everyday life.

Our work includes the Canary Challenge, educational resources for parents and schools, research and public education, speaking engagements, and partnerships with organizations working to strengthen families and communities.

WE ARE THE CANARIES.

The warning is already around us. The question is what we choose to do with it.

Join The Canary Project in building a healthier relationship with technology—and reclaiming more of what makes us human.
